Before a Chemical Peel

What is a Chemical Peel?

  • An acidic solution applied to the skin causing controlled exfoliation
  • Treats texture, pigmentation, acne, fine lines, and sun damage
  • Depth ranges from superficial (2-5 day recovery) to medium (7-14 days)

Before Your Peel

  • Stop retinoids and AHAs/BHAs 5-7 days before treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure for 2-4 weeks before treatment
  • Darker skin types may need pre-treatment with hydroquinone for 2-4 weeks
  • Inform the doctor about any history of cold sores (herpes)

What to Expect

  • You will feel a burning or stinging sensation lasting a few minutes
  • Treatment takes 15-30 minutes
  • Redness and peeling are expected - this is how the treatment works
